In a crumbling mansion in the outer suburbs, Harry, an accomplished but declining author slaves away on his latest novel. Assisted by his sharp-tongued, precocious daughter, Syb, they pass the summer days in a lazy idyll of sunshine and wordplay. When the prodigal son, Jonathan returns, he brings with him long-simmering tensions that threaten the fragile ties they hold as a family.
